Brent Cobb & The Fixin’s

This album is a point of reference. It’s not that I’ve never rocked before. Just ain’t rocked in a while…

It’s been real cool seeing so many new faces showing up at shows these last couple years. A lot of them even seeming to mostly know stuff from the more recent albums almost exclusively and that’s not a bad problem to have.

I’ve always said our crowd is the best on any side of the musical genre tracks. They really care about the songs and come to truly listen.

I’ve also always declared myself a songwriter-singer. Songwriter first, singer second. So, l think naturally they expect to have more of a low-key, intimate, songwriter-y experience and I believe that expectation is delivered upon.

However, something that seems to catch some by surprise is that when I’m with The Fixin’s we sorta put on a rock show too and really… that’s nothing new. When making the set-list each night I do my best to pull from the entirety of my 20+ years of catalog to include songs from all eras. A good many of those early ones were rockers written by a teenage me who was more influenced at the time by classic rock than I was classic country. A few of those even went on to be recorded by more rock-leaning bands.

Thank goodness. My resume and light bill appreciates it. And it’s just cool to see friends succeed.

I guess I say all this to say – for listeners who’ve become familiar more recently, dig on into the back catalog stuff too. You might recognize more than you think. And for the folks who’ve been around a while… you already know.

Thanks for caring.

Sincerely,

Brent & The Fixin’s

P.S. We recorded live straight to tape for this project. Just me and The Fixin’s. But that ain’t nothin’ new either. All my favorites are made that way. All of my own albums, except for one, were also recorded that way. Hope you enjoy…

Me Like Bees

“They surrounded me like bees; they went out like a fire among thorns; in the name of the Lord I cut them off!” Psalm 118:12

No, this isn’t a Sam Jackson quote from the latest grindhouse inspired Tarantino film; it’s the impetus behind the Joplin, MO band Me Like Bees. Formed on the heels of the 2000s indie rock scene, Missouri-based indie rock band, Me Like Bees, was created by college dropout, Pete Burton and former gas station clerk, Luke Sheafer in 2009. The pair met while playing high school football together in Kansas; only to lose touch and serendipitously end up at the same college town in southwest Missouri several years later. The duo shared a mutual affinity for the music of the aughts. Bands like The Strokes, Modest Mouse, The White Stripes, and Franz Ferdinand, would serve as the catalyst to the danceable, guitar- driven rock that Me Like Bees would become known for, all of which are ever-present on their newly released sophomore full-length album — Disco Two Step.
