When people first hear the music of acoustic guitar duo Strunz & Farah, they are often struck by the startling virtuosity of the musicianship — the impossible speed, the clean execution, the lyricism, the uncannily perfect improvisations, and their trademark tandem harmonies. Guitar Player Magazine has praised them as “two of the planet’s most gifted acoustic guitarists” and have referred to their technical prowess as “maximum acoustic shred”.
Improvisation is vital to the duo’s music— each piece has a solo section where each player freely improvises, capturing the spirit of the moment. They are spectacular live, and their fresh improvisations make each performance completely unique. They have been in the vanguard of an influential and innovative international style of virtuoso acoustic guitar playing, in a genre perhaps best described as World Jazz.
Renowned world, and classical musicians they have recorded with include Dr L Subramaniam, Hayadeh, Ashish Khan, Jihad Racy, Edwin Colon Zayas, and others; from the jazz world, Stanley Clark and Hubert Laws have recorded with them. They performed and recorded often with Jackson Browne; they have also recorded with Joan Baez, Joan Armatrading, Gerardo Nuñez, and Rodrigo y Gabriela (who claim Strunz & Farah as a major influence). They have appeared on showbills with Miles Davis, George Benson, Kenny Loggins, and Chick Corea, among many others.
